It’s supposed to be hard.

I talked with a boy & his parents last about how he wasn’t feeling like training anymore. When we talked to him more, he said, “I don’t feel like I’m good at this. I don’t feel strong. Class has felt harder recently.” What I said was, “That’s okay!” I didn’t make a big deal out of it. I didn’t poo-poo how he felt. I acknowledged and communicated something along the lines of, “That’s okay. This is SUPPOSED TO BE HARD!”

So many of us shoot ourselves in the foot because they go into something and then quit because it’s hard. You knew it was going to be hard! Well, this is what hard feels like. It’s okay for something to be hard – it’s supposed to be hard!
